The first time I saw this quote it was referring to BMWs, someone had posted it on a BMW motorcycle forum.

I was going to trade in my 3yr old BMW for a new one. When I said I was going to do my own servicing, they said: "no problem but it will need to come to us for software updates, most of the bikes need updating every service interval at the moment" At the time I was 50 miles from the nearest dealer.
That's why I'm riding a 12 year old machine, with no intention of changing until it wears out or they stop selling spare parts for it.
