I have found that it is more and more common to be faced with faults, which would be easier to diagnose with a better understanding of the ECU in questions strategy.
E.g. CDI Merc with intake valve actuation fault, and only a code for the valve motor. This turned out to be a MAF fault. Who would guess in this case that the MAF would take preference over a throttle position signal?
