    This stuff is a minefield John.There are a lot of rules that must be adhered to but also a lot of recommendations and a lot of rumor.Most of the rules are common sense.Ones to look out for are:-
    (1)First aid box.This must contain a minimum spec,some things are date marked as well.
    (2)Accident book.Rumor that near misses must be recorded to!
    (3)Employers liability certificate displayed and in date.
    (4)Health & saftey poster displayed & filled in.
    (5)Risk assesment.Must be written if 5 or more staff.
    (6)Lifting equipment independantly inspected and reports acted on.

    If you get that lot right and the workshop is tidy with no obvious dangers you are on the way.If you get a suprise visit from inspector it will put him in good mind.Usually they just advise things that should be done.

    Also PATS testing all electrical stuff,fire extinguisher location,signage,maintenance,fire exits & signs,trip hazards,grinding wheel guards, personnel protection equipment etc etc
