    Personally, I wouldn't put up with being treated like that.

    My prices are set at the level they are because I run a proper business and invest in equipment etc. so that I can do a proper job. I also have to pay environmental charges and that means that my customers have to pay them too.

    It depends if you are desperate for their work.

    Do they expect the same discounts from their lawyers and accountants - I suspect not!

    I currently charge £35 per unit of labour, which is not necessarily 1 the same as £35 per hour, plus VAT.

    I get few arguments over charges, but then I stick to my guns because I make sure I can justify what I do.
