MOT ..cant think of a proper 'subject'

Sorry about the "subject" - cant think.

Anyhow, just wondering as I came across this situation today and my station where I always go couldnt answer it ( im not a tester as you may have fig'd)
Chap input the details of the car I took in, called me over cos the screen said , something like, car cannot be added too time wise because it has more than a month test remaining.

As the old ticket was lost , and Im assuming it was not a computer one, we just had to carry on as a new 12 month test.

What Im asking is, Is there any way in this new system to find out just when the old test was due to run out?? as it obviously knew it hadnt ran out - if you understand but didnt show a date at all. As I say, they couldnt figure it.
Its not major important - just an interesting issue.

Hi Mike,
If the system is saying that the expiry time cannot be added to then it means that the last test was done on the computer system less than 11 months ago.
Bear in mind that some garages have been using the system for quite a few months now.
There is a way to check the Mot history on any vehicle on the Mot website,but you need certain bits of info....Reg Number....Certificate number...etc

As far as I know Andy thats right... thats why Im assuming it wouldnt show on the system...
by the way.. I thought I was up late !!

Hi there Dave.. I see what your saying re the 11 months..what I was meaning (trying to mean...) was, can the /or not, date be somehow identified by digging more into the computer system.. if you understand..

I'll try that on the dvla web site, but it may just now have the new details on, ie, the test I did yesterday.. we'll see - as they say.Ill let you know.

If the previous test was a computer test then expiry dates will be logged in system and will automatically show and then be printed out on V20 if less than one month to go,this also is the case with 1st MOT as V5 info (first date of reg)is on system.If previous test was old type then we put in manually expiry date.we have a record of tests carried out which we can access but from memory(as im at home now)no expiry dates.

The computer system will store all records of tests and advisory notices from the first test ever done on the system.

If the vts terminal would not allow extra time to be added it would have been for one of two reasons as i understand it.

1)it has had an mot test pass registered on line & has more than a month remaining

2)A replacement/duplicate new style cert has been issued in place of an old style cert that has more than a month remaining.

The system has no provision (for vts)to "dig" for info regarding old style mot result info.

Thanks for the info guys..
I went on the website , did a dig, and found what I needed to know... best of it was, it turned out the vehicle in question had, wait for it NINE months left on.
Thats 'age' for you. Such a shame but what can you do.
