I enquired about this scheme & you have to pay £10.00+vat per month & also purchase 28 units of forte products per month.Has anyone else looked into it.& what do you think.

This goes back to my point posted on 17-08-06 about regulation. There needs to be one code of conduct/practise whatever, that everyone can understand and stick to. It also relates to yesterdays post about "a legal question", if procedures etc are in place it can help to protect the garage and customer, and hopefully everone knows where they are. Andy

Hi have tried this and it is ok, you get service sheets and a sign foc, but as you say it really is a marketing thing, having said that i have used forte products for many years now and have had no problems. But as we all know the customer wants every thing on the cheap and these are a pricey product if you charge as the rep tells you. I cant remember if they hold you to a contract period now i think not, so my advice would be give it a go, if it not working stop.

This topic seems to have creaped (creeped) from another old thread,

I still stand by my comment...

If you have a busy workshop, happy customers & operate sensible standards of quality control & fair trading, then why bother forking out on an approval scheme offered by a chemical (workshop consumable) company. Blimey, I am surprised that there isn't a "Snap-on approved garage" scheme available.

As suggested by someone previously, there is always going to be the type of customer who wants (needs) a cheap, back street repair that suits his or her pocket. It maybe that the repair is done buy someone like you guys & therefore hopefully all will be well with the world. But as we all know there will always be the guy down the pub that will service your beamer for 75 quid. Never mind that 75 quid won’t buy the proper parts, the customer hasn’t got a clue what is involved in the job these days.

In short, you gets what you pay for, & if you try to put legislation in place to prevent “back street repairs” then all you will achieve will be, imposing higher costs for the proper “average” motorist & force the “bargain hunter” type to go underground.

Can anyone foresee a situation were a car requires an annual maintenance certificate, not like an MOT, were the vehicle meets a minimum standard, but to prove that it has been serviced to a government approved standard, buy officially certificated technicians, with specific manufacturer training for the said vehicle, to BSI standard 103430 whatever ???

This country is so tied up with bureaucracy & paper work that it is fast becoming a joke to the rest of the world. Take a look at all the other government-regulated bodies. The Health service, Schools, the military & Police service, Child support agency, Passport office, VOSA. Do any of these actually perform an efficient task? They all need a rocket up them in some way or another.

We too are forte users and they are trying to persuade us to join! see their website www.goodgaragescheme.com . Forte are out to sell their product of course, but they have over the past 20 years or so? we have known them have consistently sort to promote good garage practices and give back up to garages.They are a genuine company(we have known our rep for years now) that believe in its product and from our experience of use, they are of benefit.Forte sees that by encouraging the raising of standards in garages and helping promote such, they can sell more of their product.Which is not a bad thing for both sides.But as has been said use of thier products on a regular basis, as the argue should be used,can soon add up on customers bills. We use Engine Flush on all services but to include other, allbeit benefitical additives we struggle to justify the extra cost especially, when as we do, you work on 3yrs+ older cars, that often at service require additional work( eg brakes etc)which puts service cost up for owner anyway.Still worth looking at and trying out. But see
my post above on trading standards new initative.
