Has anyone else found this to be so. I'm sure a lot of our customers feel we are adding the small charge we make when we can adjust, just to inflate our MOT bill. What sort of problems do you other MOT stations find on this issue?

Not sure how relevant this is, but the station we use, regularly finds the beam setting out on 1st MOT cars.

They do not charge us for the adjustment, its just a pattern they`ve seen emerge over the last 5 years.

We do have a fairly high failure rate for headlamp aim. We charge the full price for MoT tests. If it is just a simple adjustment, with no seized screws or defective self levelling components, we don't charge. As headlamp bulbs become more complicated to fit we see many more vehicles with headlamp bulbs jammed in upside down,sideways, you name it. I think the high failure rate is borne out by the number of vehicles you see on the road at night with one headlamp shining straight into your eyes.

Also lots of bulbs not fitted correctly...wonder if the position of the bulb and or filament by 1 or 2mm adds up to much more on the headlamp aligner?

We charge full price so as long as its a 2 minute job, no charge is made.

I don't think anyone was saying that this shouldn't be the case (its the first thing I do when I get in the car), what was hinted at was whether when operated several times, do these automatic adjusters always return the headlamp(s) to the correct position?

We are not short of MOT's but we constantly have to update equipment including shortly a new beam setter to meet the new regs.
