VW/Audi key coding

Can anyone tell me if they have problems getting the immob codes from the VW dealers? Does anyone know what they should and shouldnt give us? Tried to get immob code for a MkIV Golf, dealer refused and insisted it had to be booked in to go onto their internet based machine. Customer didnt want to muck around, so it went in on a tow truck. Yet another lost job!

You won't get codes anymore from VAG as they don't see them anymore its all done automatically when they plug the car into their diagnostic dealer network.

What you need is one of the many tools that extract the PIN code from the car. I believe the SP ACR4 key coding update does this plus many other tools you can get from China.

Which one did you buy? Looking to get one as were a good 3hr trip to main dealer and back to code keys and seem to have a lot of call for them. Looked at the site above and there's a few options but cant really make out whats what.

Anyone else got one or had any experience?

Anyone used the Sykes version?
