ProTec additives - Opinions required #

Being marketed as a competitor to Forte, has anyone formed an opinion of Pro Tec?

They are produced here at home and are a bit cheaper than Forte.

Don't know about the additives, but does this mean another scheme for quality establishments?

Funny you say that Mark, if you check their web site you will see they have such a scheme!!

This is One of the lads that used to work for Addit that has set up on his own rather than going to work for one of its Competitors. Hes a Nice guy and would benefit from you custom.

He has got agents around the country, but i am not sure how many.

Funnily enough theres also a good garage scheme on his website too.

Steve I switched from Forte to ProTec and must say its an excellent product. Get a rep in from ProTec to do the demo. Interesting results when they compare the ProTec against Forte and other treatments. I was always Fortes biggest fan and took some convincing to change products. Never looked back and now use ProTec with confidence and like you say its a touch cheaper.

Mark I don't use any treatments on cars that are still under warranty. Simple reason is I've not seen additives on service schedules. Although the Forte rep sells cases of the stuff locally to Fiat, Vauxhall, Seat dealerships. Most of the cars I see are usually out of the warranty period. So I use the UKAT service schedule and add the treatments. I regularly turn away new cars looking for servicing on the basis that I don't need the grief and the runaround from the dealers when the car goes to the dealer for warranty repairs...

I won't use on anything German now after an incident with a 20v A4. It came in with a slight rattle on start up ie for 1-2 seconds so flushed it & after oil change it rattled for England

basically finshed off the vvt/tensioner unit at rear of head between cams & as it came in for noise anyhow & was a friends it wasn't a major problem .

However if it was booked for service & customer hadn't mentioned about a noise on first start in morning you'd have trouble trying to explain that & although all the reps say the product is under warranty I wouldn't risk finding out how well they stand on with that for the sake of a fivers profit.

As far as I know no German make recommend the use of flushes so for that & above reasons we don't flush them or as Paul says anything still under 3yrs old.

Matt good point, has far as the warranty on the treatment goes I think they just replace the treatment that you used

I used to use Protec addatives in the early 90`s with excellent results
we used them before forte and only switched to forte because the local protec dealer ceased trading.
Protec was a far better product than forte in my opinion

I have used it in the past and it is quite good but I found it a bit expensive (just supplier issue i think)I now use BG and wont be going back to forte
