I still can't decide whether to travel down on Sunday and stay somewhere or leave EARLY on Monday morning. I only have to drive about 100 miles but if the traffic is bad I'm scuppered.

Rooms in the Thistle Hotel start at £119 and I am not paying that much!

Guess I'll toss a coin tomorrow!

Well, I braved the big car-park that is the M25 to attend and what a great day it turned out to be.

It was really good to meet some of the guys there too, especially Mark Murphy, who flew in from Ireland to attend - that is keen!

Good to meet you Mark - I hope you had a good return trip and caught that 9pm flight OK.

James Dillon's presentation on Networks was very informative and entertaining - if you fancy a change of career James give some serious thought to stand-up comedy.

Frank Massey's message was rather more serious, reiterating his concerns for the future of the independent garage and repeating his advice to consider specialising in one/a few makes and being prepared to make a serious investment in the necessary tools.

The message of supporting the Right To Repair Campaign lingered however and it is a serious consideration for all of us in view of the imminent end of Block Exemption in 2010.

All-in-all a very worthwhile day away from the workshop so look out for the next event promised for early next year.

Peter Warman said he will try to get some of the pictures being taken throughout the day to post here - you have been forewarned!

Got the flight OK and got stuck on our very own car park (M50) for about 35 min. so only in the door now , but well worth it, great day and also great to put some faces with the names guys.

Hi I have to agree it was a great day and good to put some faces to fellow UKAT members. I for one am going to take up the warnings given by Frank & the others. We really need to get on and fight our corner with Euro 5 law replacing Block exemption in 2010. I am going to make a donation to R-2-repair their form has been sitting on my desk for over 2 months now. We really need to take up the call to support those who are trying to fight our corner in Brussels if we hope to have a future!!!!!

Not only did Mark Banks win the TOP Tech 2008 he also won the quiz on the day and was presented with an Anorak for his general knowledge on automotive trivia

James Dillon on top form as usual, one of the highlights of the day

Hi Peter,

Good pictures there, thanks for posting them. I was hoping to catch up with you and have a chat on the day. I am still getting used to the 'Top Tech' celeb thing and there were so many people to talk to I did not get the chance, hopefully next time.

It was a great day and I really enjoyed James and Frank's presentations. Top marks to Aftermarket for organising such a good event.

Hi Peter,
I thought this technical workshop day was the best so far, the content was excellent.
It seemed that the day went too fast.
I would have liked to have been able to meet more people, sorry should have looked at this board before hand.
I liked the Merc that could park itself (made for the gender that has a bit missing from the brain "according to JD").
I would also like to thank Arfur Parkit for the MP4 player, big shock that was!
Still it was a very good day and well worth the money.
