Parts prices #

Hi All
Been discussed before on here but worth a mention.
Today bought a turbo for a vauxhall 1.3 cdti price fom dealers
£109 + vat (not recon) no surcharge bin old unit.Local factors price £395

I am seeing that quite a lot these days. I think the dealers are fighting back.

The retail on a pair of genuine handbrake cables for a VW transporter were half the price of my local factor. This made the factor trade price more than the VW retail. It's so easy to appear like you are overcharging the customer again.

I have now got to the stage where I wish the dealers had more deliveries, if they had, I would probably just use genuine parts as they usually fit correctly and don't fail like some of the rubbish that the factors sell.

This happens now and again. Problems with dealers can arise if a warranty claim is required.
Dealers will almost invariably not pay warranty labour, they always want the vehicle into their workshop. This can be inconvenient.
My experience over 40 yrs is that some dealers, when they get the car into their shop, can 'try it on' ie. the part wasn't installed correctly and so on.
Incidental to that, we have had more problems with VW OE water pumps being of poor quality than some of the factor supplied ones.
