Which Insurance company? #

We have had the same insurance company for years (prob 30 or so).

Although out of my comfort zone, as in better the devil you know, I think it is time to get another quote - particular as they are adding on 10% for direct debit, which was free last time.

Who do you insure with and can you recommend please? Will have to get my act together pronto as it is due for renewal on the 14th March.

If changing insurance company, before accepting a new quote, make sure you ask the new company if they will require an inspection of your premises ! Could cost you thousands if your electrical or security isn't good enough !

hi i changed my insurance company last year and 1 month in was asked for electrical installation check, 6k later to be honest i didnt have a spare 6k knocking about so it took quite a bit of time to get the money together my insurance company have informed me they will not renew my cover this year because of the delay.terry

Wow, that sounds scary. Was the 6k for the electrical work?

Spoke to the broker from Swinton today (from UKAUTO, Garage Management thread). Very fair advice, which I have took, which is too stick with my current insurer (AXA) unless I have a particular concern as 'better the devil you know' can be the case sometimes. AXA had irritated me with a 10% charge for direct debit, when it was free last year which is what really prompted my interest in a change. Slight increase in charge also - but they have reduced it slighty after discussion.

Good of the broker not to take advantage of earning a broker fee

Hope you managed to get your insurance sorted one way or another.

Hi Ian,
We had similar after changing insurance companies ! only it cost us 12K to sort out the electrical installation and then we had to update our alarm system as well, that cost another 1.5K with an annual running cost of £500 for monitoring !!

update from my previous posting down the page i have just changed from axa too nig saving £600 and better cover, also axa wanted 10% interest were nig only 4% i used a broker called giles insurance which was a recommendation from my bank
