Hi

This will an interesting one for VOSA, they are currently closing there dedicated HGV stations in favor of testing at commercial garages.

I guess a few more wasted millions reinstating them in a few years.

Yes I think the ultimate goal from the EU is to separate the vehicle testing from the workshop. Drive through testing lanes or stations run by Independent Companies that do not have a vested interest in the repairs of any failures

This would ultimately sound the death knell for many Independents who rely heavily on the MOT testing income to survive, but I suspect the EU deduce a "conflict of interests" if you MOT test and repair at the same workshop

On the upside Independents would benefit from pre MOT work prior to testing and maybe customers paying the Independent garage to take the vehicle for testing, manufacturers of diagnostic and emission test equipment would benefit as this would all be needed for pre testing

PS: Think we will also see some legislation about the removal of DPF's and remaping, this is not a modification (enhancement) but merely a cheat to get around a fault with the vehicle, there is now a wide proliferation of companies offering this service

At the seminar i went to a couple of weeks ago they were also talking about not being able to test your own personal car and garages with car sales not able to test cars that they were selling themselves.

Interesting times and of course no grey areas it's all black and white. ha ha

Hi all

This would be similar to the system here in Ireland. IE independent company in dedicated testing centres.

The initial test costs e58.00 and on a fail you have 28 days to book a retest at a cost of e28.00
Most car owners use this to their perceived advantage.
If the car fails, they then carry out the necessary repairs highlighted by the nct centre and are sure of a pass on the retest. If it passes first time, great.

Why go to a garage for a pre inspection when the testing centre will do it for e28.00 This is how a lot of car owners look at it.
