Vehicles Turning Up With Little Or No Fuel #

As title. Seem to have had a run of it recently. Really winds me up. How do customers expect us to service/test drive their car.

What do you do in these circumstances?

I think they expect you do add fuel while your out on test drive.

Got a Skoda in now which i believe needs cylinder head work and an extended test drive after repairs, doubt it will do 5 miles with the amount of fuel content showing on gauge and the fact the low level warning light is on.

No excuse in my opinion.

well i had a young ladys car in twice last month and both times it ran out of fuel,the first time was for a clutch the mum asked me to also check for a petrol leak which i could not find, but when i worked out her mileage she had done 24,000 miles in less than a year yes thats 24,000 miles,when i told her mum she said she runs out of fuel at least 3 times a week i think she needs to buy a taxi !

I look after a fleet of taxi's & they are the worst for low fuel levels.

I took to checking fuel levels years ago and stating that I would add a tenners worth of fuel, that would be added to the bill.
A few grumbles were forthcoming, but overcame swifty when explained they either go put some fuel in, or I do.

It's a habit I've got into now & 'normal' customers seem happy once I explain to them how much fuel is in a late Passat / Mondeo fuel filter, along with the fact that some EDC systems do run rough with low fuel levels.

If its a garage or dealer that has done it before I put Â£60 in and add it to the bill. It needs fuel, I put fuel in. Next time it is Â£60 plus half an hours labour.

I was under the impression that, technically speaking, one could not "Re-Sell" fuel unless one had a suitable license! :/

I have always wondered how this might (Assuming I am correct) affect workshops/Break down services that are not part-of/associated-with a filling station if the LA decided to get nasty about it?

Hi Paul

Interesting point We sell fuel and hold a petroleum lenience, I thought the license applies to STORAGE of petrol rather than the act of selling it.

If you are concerned you could show it as a disbursement rather than a sale.

I'm Ok with customers presenting their vehicles with low fuel as we charge £10.00 a gallon plus vat

It's in my Ts & Cs:-

Fuel.
In order to facilitate diagnosis and roadtesting it is expected that the vehicle will contain a reasonable quantity of fuel (minimum ¼ tank). Vehicles left with the low fuel warning lamp on may be refused or refuelled at our discretion, all fuel costs and time taken will be chargeable.
