Signam number plates licence expiry #

We purchased a number plate machine from Signam 5 years ago, more as a convenience for ourselves than the amount of number plates we produce.
we have always purchased all our number plate supplies from them, and renewed the licence every year.
The licence has now expired and when I phoned to renew it again, we have been told unless we are able to spend £1000 a year we can sod off.
The guy on the phone explained they did'nt want our business any more and reckons they have no record of us buying anything off them since 2010, which considering they have no record of renewing our licences doesn't look good for there record keeping.
I have just spoken to another garage locally who are in the same situation.
Since the day we purchased our machine we have had no contact from Signam, so we are more than a little p****d off to now have stock but no way of making plates.
They have washed there hands of all small businesses with no contact at all.

Forgot to mention, when our licence expired, the computer packed up.
We sent it off to be looked at and were told there was a virus in the number plate software, which was removed, but we still cant use the machine for number plates without a licence.
It had got past the antivirus, and the number plate software doesn't require internet.
When I was talking to the other local garage who's licence has also expired, he mentioned his machine had packed up when the licence expired.
Coincidence or what?

Our computer has also packed up, struggle to even get it to boot up now & was also told our license has expired when we contacted signum, anybody got any other options ref. number plate making equipment? As Andy said we also had it as a convenience for ourselves & service for customers due to our slightly remote location.

never used this software but just had a look on some torrents and there is some "aftermarket" software by the look of things

Hi Andy,

Strange we use Signam with no problems and have for a number of years we don't buy loads of stock due to rural location either, I am sure I pay £60 / quarter for a fully maintained PC and printer plus number plate board and mangle I presume that includes the license?

We bought our equipment, rather than lease/rent it, and I think that's where the problem now is, they were happy at the time to sell it to us with a low turnover of supplies, but apparently there management has now decided you need to spend a minimum of £1000 per year to get a new licence and the new software as they are not using the existing software anymore, so you may be in the same boat when your licence expires.
We will look into these other companies, thanks for the info
