Engine Flush - Good Garage Scheme Audit #

Hi Guys

I have posted this on this forum because I wish to post the link to someone.

I had an audit from the Good Garage Scheme Friday, now they state you should use fuel and engine flush treatment every service. When I joined this scheme in 2008 I made it clear I use diesel treatment every service in the fuel filter but flush and petrol would be offered to the customer as an option.

I use flush in extreme cases of oil burning etc but far from every service. Now it looks like I will be getting removed from the scheme for this reason.

I would like your honest unbiased opinions and experiences as well established professional traders. I got told the flush has better lubricating properties than mobil 1 oil?

hi sean they dropped me off for not using enough product,they said we should be selling fuel treatments on every mot,we looked at some results and they were nearly 0 co and all under 50 hcs so how do you sell to these customers without ripping them off.And also how to justify a flush when they all want a service under £100 like all the fast fits do

The "Good Garage Scheme" "Audit" is complete baloney.
Nothing but a sales tool, there pitch is all about selling Forte products & nothing whatsoever about whether the garage is any good or not.

"Better lubricating properties than Mobil 1"
An interesting claim for a plant based chemical cleaner.............

When I started working on cars in the early 1970s when Renaults used to have a sticker on the engine: 'le rincage du moteur est interdit' or in English: 'Don't flush the engine.
I did have a really good American textbook setting out the reasons why flushing wasn't necessarily a good idea, but someone permanently borrowed it.
I've never been sold on the idea of engine flushing, on badly maintained engines the flushed particles could end up clogging the sump strainer with bad result.
Any scheme that requires mandatory engine flushing in order to establish 'Good Garage' status is probably one to avoid.

Mentioned the business name Forte, the thread will probably disappear like the "Portly Primate" ones did.

PS I would not have anything to do with Forte because of the Good Garage Scheme. Shame really as when it is needed I don't think it is bad stuff. Now use BG as and when.

2 units up from us used to be a small courier firm which serviced there own fleet, they became a good garage member as they used to buy loads of Forte products.

So this to me just says its a sales ploy and not anything to do with a good garage at all.

Good Garages my ar5s. Based on what exactly? The increased sales of fuel & oil additives does not a good garage make, it really is as simple as that.

Talk about conflicting interests!

I would be more concerned about being found guilty by association with some of the outfits who have been suggested as being "Good Garages"

It really is a joke.

On principal I refused to have anything to do with this scheme from day one it has nothing to do with being a good garage and all to do with sales of product "a good product maybe" but nothing at all to do with quality, honesty and integrity the scheme is seriously flawed.
Unfortunately F!!!!! have spouted this bullshit for so long they actually believe their own bullshit now
What I don't understand is how they have managed to sell it to so many independents,and I don't mean any disrespect to those that are members we all have our own businesses to run with different reasons and circumstances for doing different things

Just My thoughts

Not sure about the scheme but as has already been mentioned I really rate BG Products but only as and when required.

I got dropped from the scheme after getting 960 feedbacks from my customers who seemed to think i was a "Good Garage", but the new man in a white van salesman decided that for every service sheet i produced i should be buying two products, therefore i was not a "Good Garage".
I had been using Forte products for 25 plus years in a main dealership and 19 years as a Independent, NO MORE FORTE NOW.

very same situation with me barry. not heard from them yet so i am thinking i will be "forgotten" or lost in paperwork and hearno more as i am buying the product but if they insist i use flush every service we will part ways and i will use SOL X which is also a great product.

The next time the rep calls in put his car on the ramp, drain all the oil and ask him to fill it with flush and see how far he gets

I have just come back from a day with Forte at their tech base in Coventry, organised by my Forte rep just to keep his customer parc up to date with contamination issues on modern motors, they do a demo with a bearing loading machine that tests lubricating qualities of various products, I have had my Forte rep out with same machine to assess the quality of oils I use, Quantum is the brand across all viscosities that only came close to the lubrication qualities of forte flush, Dexos 2,Ford XR come nowhere near !

Bear in mind I haven't seen the Forte bearing demonstrations.

But, of course they're going to give a demonstration using a tool/machine that shows their product off in the best possible light.
How does it cope with degradation, acids, condensation, longevity, consistent severe variations in temperature....?

Just an "off the top of my head" list of variables that engine oils have to deal with.

I have written about this before. Back in the 70's and 80's Wynns was the oil treatment that was pushed hard in the trade and they had the same bearing load test where they would take some oil from the garge and use it in the tester, increasing pressure until the roller seized, then add Wynns and the roller would lke magic free! However all it was doing was raising the pressure seizure point, which you could do by adding HypoyEP oil.
Anyone fancy putting Hypoy in their VVT turbo'd modern engine?

Hi Steve,

"pressure seizure point", your term, if you have a few samples of oil from different manufacturers, and they fail at pathetic "pressure seizure points", would that not influence your choice of oil?.

I now only use Quantum,I stock all their oils and Ford 913 in all its variations

No because an engine is not under extreme pressure in this sense. The oil has more important functions of lubrication, cooling and particle retention.
