Snap On electrical item warranty #

Hi all, just having a small rant about Snap On and their electrical tool warranty.

I have purchased over time a lot of electrical tools from Snap On.

Two impact gun issues have cropped up, handed guns to dealer and got told there is a minimum charge for each gun repair.

Fair enough, but (and a big but) these tools come at a premium price so I would expect a premium warranty, I know hand tools are lifetime but their electrical tool warranty could be longer.

When I bought these guns I was told a year warranty on the battery (that's fine) but nothing was said about the actual tool, I presumed it was a bit longer.

A tad miffed.

What ever their warranty duration is, their turn around borders on disgraceful due to logistics and service centre delays and then nobody else seems to have access to parts for repair.

Also heard from the grapevine that the current impact guns are having quality issues.

The longer you are in this trade you will find that snap-on everything is way over priced.
There are better quality and much cheaper alternatives to everything they sell, from cabinets to scanners.
We were having this discussion in the 80's
Spend 20k with snap-on and you get a great tool box and not enough tools to complete a routine service, or 20k at the local factors and get enough kit to do most everything just not as shinny but the warranty will be just as good and you wont be left in tears when you leave the 13mm from you fancy set under the bonnet never to be seen again.
Ps I do mainly MOT's now and in the last 12 months I have acquired 4 sockets, 2 screwdrivers, 4 spanners, 1 pair of pliers and a rechargeable inspection lamp. All snap-on

We have 2 Â£600 guns and at just over 18 moths old both batteries went at Â£150 each not good

I think you will find every electrical item sold in the eu carries a two year warranty,might be wrong but don't think so.terry taylor

I've been told that before but it doesn't apply to us here in the UK. Another piece of information I was told is tha Panasonic tv's come with a standard factory 2 year warranty but not according to Curry's who try to sell you extended warranties.

Good news, the 3/8" gun was a good repair but maybe slightly weak but no issues.

My old school 1/2" is great, looks brand new and fairly powerful to boot.

Shame the newer 1/2" guns still have issues whether its motor or battery. Workmates got a bit miffed and upgraded to a Milwaukee which are uber powerful.

Just wondering, has anyone here upgraded their ni-cad batteries as I would like to have a more powerful battery.

Hello Anthony,
I have a couple of the old style lithium batteries and quite a few of the ni-cad ones.
The lithium are better and a lot lighter, also they discharge giving full power coming to an abrupt stop, there is also a charge state led indicator on the battery.
The lithium batteries don't mind the cold so much.
I can't remember the price difference but if you are replacing a failed ni-cad it may be worth a punt and try one, But just check your charger is the red one because the black ones cannot charge lithium batteries.
