Hi all Our local Mercedes agent has just refused to supply me with and ignition lock barrel for a 52 plate slk, stating Mercedes tell them not to supply independents with security related parts (dealt with this dealer for 20 + years)I have experienced the increased security req to obtain such parts and dont have a problem with that , they will supply me with a key that will work without coding ready to go, but not the barrel this does not make sense to me surely the key is more of a security issue as its plug and play. or is it a legal thing ? Where is this going ? Any one else been refused (seen post from two years ago but cant find anything else) I was about to buy a Merc personally possibly not now are any other manufacurers going this way
Thourghly p***sed off Mark
Beer o'clock soon its got to be

I'd like to know if they would supply the owner of the vehicle. If they did refuse, what grounds could they use? 'We don't trust you enough to sell you parts for your own car' would make for an interesting exchange of views. As for where it is going, who knows? It would be interesting to know if this is an MB policy or just an individual dealer's over-zealous attitude.

Oh it certainly is an MB policy! They even have an official term for it.
They call them TRP or Theft Relevant Parts.
All dealers are forbidden to sell any Part catagorised TRP without proper documentation and having sight of the vehicle in question. ie on their premises.
Now if that isn't restrictive practice I don't know what is.
I can understand a need for a secure paper trail with keys but the rest are just excuses to restrict access to the independent.

The last time we did one, the customer supplied us with the parts needed. He had to prove ownership, V5 and a few household bills. He had problems getting his deposit back for the key, but that was his fault not MB.

We have been supplied the green (I think) programming key a couple of times from MB Sheffield to allow us to complete the fitting of a new EIS, I had heard of this and Mike states it correctly TRP we receive a MB produced mag and there was an article on about it in there last month, they finished with chap (can't remem name) from RMi if you're a member will be happy to discuss it with you - just glad our local dealer uses their noggin and if you supply them with V5C copy etc there isn't an issue.
What a bloody trade eh wait until connected DoIP comes on strong

Taken from MB Star partner website;
What is the definition of Theft Relevant Parts?
A Theft Relevant Part can be used to change the identity of a vehicle or to steal a vehicle. Keys are an obvious example but there are various control units that help to create the security systems within our cars. To guarantee TRP security and integrity for all parts we have a specific, secure user ID mechanism where only certain individuals can programme the parts. Likewise, Mercedes-Benz control the whereabouts and traceability of the equipment and parts to mitigate any breaches of security and abuse of the process.
How long has the restriction on the supply of certain parts been operating?
The restrictions have been around for approximately ten years so it’s a well established, proven process. The introduction of Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions cars necessitated a few small changes but predominantly the process and restriction of certain TRPs to independent workshops remains unchanged for the past decade.
What’s the main aim of the TRP process?
Simply to protect our customers’ cars from theft. Mercedes-Benz are committed to making it as difficult as possible for unauthorised people to change the identity of their cars, while employing pragmatic processes Retailers, customers and StarPartner members.
TRP restrictions
There are a few TRPs that Mercedes-Benz cannot supply to independent workshops, these are predominantly for cars that are pre-Euro 5 emissions levels. For more information speak to your local Retailer or contact the StarPartner Team (auto link email).
But with TRP’s aren’t you taking business away from independent repairers to boost work for your Dealer network workshops?
We encourage StarPartner members to work with our Retailers to ensure maximum security for Mercedes-Benz owners.
How many Theft Relevant Parts are there?
There are more than 1,500 TRPs and with new model development and changing part numbers this continues to grow. Each Mercedes-Benz Retailer employs two TRP specialists to ensure the needs of our StarPartner members are catered for.

I found out last week that the valve body for a CVT gearbox on a B200 is a TRP!
