Is mobile vehicle repair business still a viable option? #

I moved into OEM from being mobile, I am now bored and want to go back to repairs, want to be self employed again but cant afford a garage. Is anyone running a mobile business and are they managing to make a good living? Any secrets they can share to the success?

Hi James

If you can put up with working in the Cold & Wet

if you can work in the dark

If you don't mind kneeling on gravel etc

Jacking on uneven or soft ground

If you like working with the customer watching

the older you get the harder it gets

etc etc

its a wonderful life in the fresh air and there are always customers who want a cheap job cos you don't have any overheads etc

On the other hand I love working outside in the sun, fresh air, cool breeze (for one day a year anyway, our summer!!)

If that's what you want to do try and build a customer base before you pack your job in.

and go for it you can always find another job if it doesn't work out if your'e any good of course. Self employed is the best thing I ever did.

Hi Tony, thanks for that. Your right, I can always find another job. I dont mind cold wet etc, Im scottish so thats a normal summer.

Hi,

I know two mobile mechanics in my area very well and they make a lot of money, but you need to be very good at your job and very quick. You get a lot of travel between jobs so no sold hours ! They make average £30000 plus year ( but hard graft)
