I would say crank sensor.I have seen these fail and give camshaft sensor type faults.
We have had problems with the crank sensor in the "heat soak" situation you describe. The best way to get to it is removing (or lifting) the inlet manifold.It is on the side of the block just by the starter motor.
Just checked the sales on this sensor for YTD and we have fitted 10. PN 13 62 7 548 994.
