Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Code or CC *: 1600
Test drive also showed a Ratlle on startup from cold (sounded top end), a very "On - Off" Poor throttle response from Idle and slightly lacking performance.
Gave the car a quick general check over and smoke checked the inlet for air leaks (As I suspected an air leak from the road test). No problems found.
Then I downloaded the fault codes, got - 10 Camshaft dephaser circuit.
I suspect the code translates to P0010 which also shows Cam dephaser cct in AD.
The customer needed the car back so I didn't have much time but I did quickly scope the input and output to the timming solenoid which had NBV through it but didn't show any activity (Sig/earth side perminantly at NBV) Despite the live data showing a required figure of 0 - 30 (somethings, possibly %) on WOT. So possibly a wiring fault between ECU and solenoid??
The question after all that waffle is,
What conditions should I be seing timing alteraton? I assume its affected by the ususal load/speed sensors? Is there any time or conditions that the ECU would stop operating the timing solenoid? Any insight into the correct operation of the system would be great.
Customer will be back in later this week so I'd like to get some info before then if possible.
Cheers.
Steve.
