This knock sensor is located exactly where you describe.You know what you have to remove to get at it.With the one I did,I found that simply cleaning up the mounting face and sensor and careful refitting seemed to produce results i.e. no MIL on and no knock sensor code. The sensor can be tested off the car by lightly tapping and observing output signal.
