with a different problem but caused by a failing battery on a Peugeot 306 which may help other's. A 2000 year 306 1.4 petrol that wouldn't idle when started of the key unless held at around 1500 rpm for a few seconds. At 1st i thought it was the idle stepper motor but after replacing with a known good one still no different. For some reason i decided it sounded a little slow on craning but not to bad, i connected up a jump pack and the idle fault disappeared. Removed jump pack and fault returned. A new battery was the cure to this fault. French cars do seem fussy about voltage levels.
