We had a TT doing just the same thing, we diagnosed it as ECM as we previously swoped the dash in it for a used one for a couple of days.
The customer sold it as was as she didnt want to buy new ecm.
Have the wires from the speed sensor been cut & resoldered ??
If so it could be the one we did !!!
