Audi TT 1.8 2002 - Codes P0501 16855 vehicle speed sensor implausible signal #

Engine Size and Code *: 1.8 apx
( Optional ) Scanner Used: solas pro
( Optional) Fault Codes: p0501 /16855

02 audi tt eml light coming on after short drive
fault code p0501/16855 vehicle speed sensor inpausible signal.
speedo working all the time,vehicle speed 0mph in data list
checked wiring from speed sensor to dash clock
checked supply and earth wires all ok
checked wiring from dash clock to ecm
could it be dash clock or ecm problem
any ideas

Hi Anthony
We had a TT doing just the same thing, we diagnosed it as ECM as we previously swoped the dash in it for a used one for a couple of days.
The customer sold it as was as she didnt want to buy new ecm.
Have the wires from the speed sensor been cut & resoldered ??
If so it could be the one we did !!!

thanks for your reply
the wires at speed sensor are still tack. tat rules out the speedo then,were you getting any vehicle speed in data list

Every thing was perfect as far as we could see.
Speedo always worked, We temperaly replaced all wiring to do with speed sensor, dash & ECU, and as previous said even substuted dash for a couple of days.Ours was an intermitant fault, one day took 1 mile to log fault then may take 50 miles, always a nightmare !!
Would have liked to fix it but as said customer sold it.
