I totally forgot to post the outcome of this, i decided to check the mechanical cam/ crank timing, which is a mission itself. Anyway there was a huge amount of slack in the chain, therefore new balance shaft chain aswell as cam chain, tensioners etc. Job done and pleased with my diagnostic process, as sometimes when a difficult job is presented and finished, i always ask myself could and did i go about the process in a methodical way!
