DTCs P0350 Ignition Coil, primary/secondary - circuit malfunction
Hi guys,
Bit of a story with this one if you will bear with me for a second. Back in December 2012 this car came in with the above fault code, we diagnosed a faulty coil 2 and replaced it with an aftermarket one. Then in March 2013 it returned with the same fault, this time we couldn't find a problem so due to inexpensive parts the customer requested we replace the other coil along with plugs & leads, bear in mind the vehicle has only covered approx 4000miles at this point, all aftermarket again. In October 13 we see it again for the P0350 code and diagnose a faulty coil 2 again so this time we replace it with a genuine FIAT at no cost to the customer! In Feb 14 we were seeing it again, we couldn't fault it but we replaced coil 1 along with plugs and leads, all genuine FIAT again to be sure; by this point the car has had all ignition components replaced with genuine and it still hasn't covered 5000 miles since new!
The customer came in again last week to say the car has had the light coming on everyday for about the last month for approx 20mins at a time, he took it to FIAT for their opinion, they have, according to their sheet, updated the ECU software for a coil issue and told him that the cat may or may not be faulty but they cannot say for sure without an additional 3hrs diagnostic time!!
I have just plugged my scanner in today because he still has the exact symptoms, MIL illuminated, car runs fine but gobbles juice! I have indeed retrieved a P0420 for cat efficiency but the P0350 is also there, the cars is perfect at present so I am reluctant to replace any cat without sorting the coil issue first.
Any ideas boys because I'm at a loss with this one???
Thanks
Craig
P.s. all DTCs are listed as intermittent obviously
