Year of Manufacture *: 2008
Engine Size and Code *: 1.4 16v
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Solus Ultra
( Optional) Fault Codes: 287D
This one came in for MOT and service, but customer declined the service last minute and he said it has some sort of car plan from BMW not sure what that's about
47,082 miles
Anyway it failed on Emissions
First Fast Idle CO 0.513 HC 85 (fail)
Second Fast Idle CO 0.514 HC 104 (fail)
Idle CO 0.042 (pass)
Did a scan for any codes and just came back with:
287D VANOS Inlet Actuator Movement
I am off for the next couple of days so not going to get to it until the middle of next week
I am not thinking CAT at the moment as the idle CO is quite low, but fast idle is sort of around what you would expect with no CAT
Just wondering if the 287D would have a bearing on emissions at idle if not operating correctly ie timing out?
Your thoughts would be welcome
PS: Customer bought car privately 6 months ago, no service book in car, so not sure when the last one was done, customer does not know either . Also did a forum search but came up with the same code for a 1.6, cleaning the actuator filters and an oil change fixed the code
Forgot to say MIL is off
