    dont know to much about this system but if it works like any of the other common rail systems i have worked on it sounds like you have a rail pressure fault on the mercedes (bosch system) the injector sequence will not start until the rail pressure reaches 120bar min also the voltage on the rail pressure sensor with engine off would be about 1 v you need to monitor rail pressure whilst cranking engine i would be looking for about 200 bar, you could try and measure rail pressure sensor voltage whilst cranking and look for about 2.5 volts
