Hi John, Thanks very much for your thought provoking reply! I have just finished reading about a BMW problem (found by accident) in the archives that addresses the problem of worn bores and flooding, washing oil away leading to low compressions, creating the same non-start scenario. Being fairly new to this game, having migrated from Consumer Electronics, I hadn't heard of this problem before. The BMW solution, and it should work for me, is to bung some oil down the cylinders and then it starts (BMW were apparently replacing blocks FOC for lowish mileage vehicles). Will look into resistor in parallel to CTS idea. At least I now know why it's happening. And no you weren't trying to re-educate my mother's mother...! Regards, Nick Bell
