Thank you for the prompt replies. I hadn't considered BBA Dave, I just took my factor's word for it. I had also heard that the dealers were fitting upgraded ECUs due to these problems. I will post the ECU no. Tony - is your advice on checkin the coils based on coil driver failure also? Just to let everyone know the diagnostic trail: 1. Read codes and code 165 idle circuit fault found 2. Attempted to drive idle motor from scanner but no movement at all 3. Drove motor with 5V supply applied direct to terminals 4. Drove motor from ECU multiplug (after disconnecting from ECU) with 5V supply to check wiring OK 5. Checked output from ECU to idle motor at idle motor connector as double check - voltages not the varying 5V expected (Autodata) 6. Checked ECU power and earths 7. Checked idle motor resistance - found to be 5.5ohms and not 11 ohms (Autodata) so could have overloaded driver circuit in ECU contributing to its failure. The plugs are OK - I serviced the car a month or so ago, when it was reported to have intermittent problems. There were no codes or anything definite then but its now got a lot worse. Still, the man's not happy....a big bill for brakes etc. then, and now this! Regards, Steve
