Ford Escort 1.6 Zetec 1997 - Vehicle stalling from cold - idle fault Archived Message

Diagnosed a faulty IAC valve as the vehicle was stalling from cold. Ordered a new one from Fords (part no 1063996) fitted it after modifying wiring as the plug was in a different place, started vehicle and it now runs at around 4500 rpm! Scoped IAC and compared with Autodata, all looks ok. Checking live data shows IAC operation dropping to 12.9% as it tries to slow the engine down. This can be see on the scope as well as it reduces the duty cycle. Ford have told us that its definitely the right part but it has been modified. If you stick your finger over the IAC air intake just above the throttle butterfly, the idle drops right down. Any ideas?
