Its not very easy to drive when it wants to idle and 4500 rpm all the time! We've left it running for a while but it gets very hot. Also cleared kam memory and disconnected battery but still no better. On further investigation we found that there is a small diode in the plug to the IAC valve. This had blown causing a short across the terminals. Cut the plug, replaced diode and refitted old valve. Idles fine now. This still doesn't explain the problem with the new ford valve and I've got to try and get my money back!
One to remember, always observe the polarity of the wiring to plug, it blows the diode if you try to power it up the wrong way around.
