Landrover Freelander 1999 2.0D L series - Will rev only to 3000 rpm when hot Archived Message

When cold vehicle will rev above 4000rpm easy. As soon as any heat gets into the engine it will rev to 3000rpm and then drops to 2500rpm then up to 2700rpm as though it's on a rev limiter. No fault codes showing. Ticks over fine, with no excess smoke whilst engine lurches around the engine bay.
Have removed a power box that was inline with the pump harness, also repaired wiring to MAF sensor. Have swapped MAF and MAP sensor, checked needle lift, map, maf, crank sensor, coolant sensor, air temp sensor, throttle pot with oscilloscope, all checked out perfect except for MAP not reaching above 2.0 volts when revved.
Even dropped the front pipe incase cat was causing some trouble. Engine does not sound advanced nor retarded, but has been into somewhere else for a few weeks, I don't know the history of what they did.
If anyone has come across anything similar, would be real grateful any tips.

    Kind regards, Nige.
