Had my MOT station call me about this one today, really weird so I thought I would post on here to see what you guys would have suggested,

symptoms were severe holding back and reluctance to rev over 2500-3000 revs, told him to drop exhaust and check cat and silencers for blockages and to disconnect MAF and roadtest, he did both of these , problem still there, however , if he removed o2 sensor from the downpipe and left it out of exhaust stream car was ok on road?

What was the cause of the problem?
