hi nige i presume this is a motronic 3.8.3, the v5 engine has got a static high voltage distributor on it (because of the odd number of cylinders). v5's use a power end stage single coil for each plug but it looks the same as a wasted spark coil pack. (all grouped together) engine ecu(j220)-power end stage (n122)-ignition coils N N128 N158 N163 N164-spark. this is a similar idea to the golf gti 1.8 20v turbo model year 2000, the end stage was mounted to the air filter box. you can scope this as a coil per cylinder system. i would possibly say the power end stage is the problem at a rough guess. hth regards paul m marshall
