Hello Mike, Thanks for the reply.I expect that most systems determine a misfire by monitoring crankshaft speed as you say ( i know the Bosch Motronic on L/Rovers does). The possibilities are endless as you say,but with sequential injection, where the ecu determines the exact point & quantity of firing the injector,you would think it feasible that the ecu might look at a particular cylinder & determine that too much fuel is being applied to that cylinder & maybe shut it down, or could it carry on applying more fuel to that cylinder ,because of the air leak at the manifold,thus fouling the plug ,causing a misfire & fluctuation in engine speed? As mentioned in other posts, it would be nice to be able to read the manufacturers actual fueling strategy to know exactly what an ecu should & shouldn't be capable of. I know in this case that it is over complicating things & that the ecu should just be replaced & the exhaust manifold leak sorted. Sorry for the long post as usual. Kind regards, Andrew
