The dash board does need as Tony says to be almost removed to enable the ECU to slide out of the security bracket. We also managed to pull the dash back enough to slide the ECU out but most of the trim and bolts need removing to gain that much movement.
It is a mystery to me why Ford suggest removing the door. Even if you tried to drill the studs that hold the cage it would not be possible to get on them.
I used the ever reliable ECU Technologies to repair the unit which had lost one of the ignition outputs.
Like Tony I then modified the bracket and secured the ECU with plastic tie wraps through holes that I had drilled in it.
It is recommended to replace the ignition coil as a precaution when this type of failure occurs and watch out for open circuit HT leads..
Ford have recently increased the price of their coil to £83.00 despite after-market ones selling for as little as £12.00+ vat.
    Thanks again.
