Spanner on front pulley and try to undo it normally works for me. If it's loose, you can bet the keyways are badly worn. I also have tried the screwdriver down plughole method, I now know that it doesn't work. Sods law is that the damn thing will nearly always stop in the correct position! As for the map sensor, I usually have a reading of approx 1.2 volts at 18-20 in hg, but I expect you have already checked that on your Corsa now you have the cam and ignition timing correct.
