BMW 320i (Vanos) 1996 - Intermittently dies at idle - brief hesitation Archived Message

This car very intermittently dies at idle or when slowing down, and sometimes has a brief hesitation.
We have scoped (2 channel)primary coil and injectors but it all happens so quick and brief that it has not told me much, but neither looses power,(12 volt line stays up)Sometimes you can run/drive car for hours and nothing happens, other times it might do it 1 or 5 minutes after start up,maybe 2 or 3 times, and then is ok for hours again. It might stall after running it for 1/2 hour.Car always starts up straight away fine like nothing is the matter.
Has anybody come across this before?Any suggestions are appriciated.I do get a faultcode for engine speed sensor, but I do not know if I should take to much notice of that.
    Have a Merry Christmas.
