Vauxhall Calibra 2.5 V6 1997 - Intermittent non start, no crank signal - Fixed #

( Optional ) Scanner Used: crypton pro scan and haynes pfcr

Hi all hope everyone is having a good start to the new year, i was until i got this calibra in.
AA pulled it in not running , so scanned it came up with no crank signal, checked crank sensor OK. It has no pulse to injectors and no spark.
It had a after market alarm and immobilizer on meta , i think , so bypassed that 2 circuits fuel and starter. I went to start it and still no joy so i powered up the fuel pump manually and it started took off feed and ran no probs for about 2 days then all of a sudden non start again , The ecu is recognizing the key. I wondered if this could be an immobilizer to ecu fault i.e. wiring loose conection etc. Am just posting to see if any of you lads have come across this before , before i start and check the wiring out.

How old? Has it got the old motronic relay? As that's the first thing I'd be assessing, if not the purple ones can be as bad!

Sorry its a 1997 model,
i dont know which relay to check as data for this model is limited on autodata. There are relays behind the fuse box in right hand kick panel 3 green , 1 blue , 1 grey. dont know which one to check.

Hi there thanks for the replies , i changed the relay and still no spark or fuel , looks as though i will have to check wiring at ecu.

p.s.
just a thought if he crank sensor is faulty would that make the fuel pump live go down , i check resistance and it fluctuates when cranking , is there any better methods for testing crank sensors?

Hi Daniel,

Are you relying on a resistance test only, when checking the crankshaft sensor?

Can you see engine speed in serial data under cranking?

Do you have a scope?

Yes if the CPS goes down, it doesn't trigger ECU to run the relay. Page4 http://calibra-classic.org/docs/Opel_Motronic2.5.pdf

Hi Glyn i am doing a resistance check as i don't own a scope,(think i best invest in one soon) when reading live data there is no rpm signal . i ordered crank sensor today , dealer only £60 + the dreaded 2 days looks like its getting left till monday.thank you all you lads who replied i will keep updated when i get sensor.

Hi all just to let you know , crankshaft sensor arrived , fitted it to car and it started no probs thanks for all your help.
