Nissan Almera 1.5 2000 - MOT failure, CO 10% at idle #

Year of Manufacture *: 2000
Engine Code or Type *: n16 1500

hi peolple,
got this nissan-mot failure-high co.
co at fast idle ok and well within desired range.
At idle though co measures approx 10% but does fluctuate down to about 4%.Have tested 02 sensors-both ok.Maf sensor ok.Throttle body was very grubby but not now.Any ideas?

Had similar recently,ok on high idle,changed evap canister and solved problem,Maybe worth a try.You can confirm faulty canister by blocking pipe from canister to manifold.Regards,Christy.

evap has been checked out ok as well as coolant temp and throttle pot
have just noticed however that absolute throttle position at idle reads 0.0%- that cant be true?
but doubt that that would give high idle co?

When you say you have tested both O2 sensors and they are O/K what was their voltage at idle when CO was 10% to 4%?

I find it hard to believe that the front O2 sensor voltage wasn't pegged high with 10-4% CO at tailpipe

Possible leak in exhaust/manifold upstream of first lambda sensor?
A good look at exhaust with a four gas would help a lot.

Hi Andy,

Did you get a fix on this? I have one with exactly the same vehicle details with fluctuating CO from 4 - 10% which was unknown to the owner. His complaint was vehicle stalling. I have cleaned throttle body and owner has changed Lambda Sensor with a Bosch unit which cost him £60 fitted. (This sounds too cheap to me and I am smelling a rat. Am sure I fitted one about a year ago to an Almera which cost £127). Lambda sensor was permanently stuck at 0.8v at idle. No DTC's recorded and everything else looks good. Will look at EVAP unit on my revisit but a FIX would be good.
