Volvo S40 1.8 2000 - Goes into limp after a few miles P0225 P0120, linked to throttle pedal #

Year of Manufacture *: 2000
Engine Code or Type *: 1800
( Optional ) Scanner used: solus

This vehicle will run for a few miles then go into limp[ mode. Codes p0225, p0120 linked to throttle pedal switch. There is a manufacture code p1221 which I do not what this represents. I have no data on what to look for when testing pedal switch. Does anyone know what this code is. Also it only seems to go into limp mode when driving at revs over 4000.

Engine code ?? I know there are at least 5 1800 fitted to these and at least 3 different ECU systems with out looking.

Looked on archive and found similar post which was answered by Tony Ludford. Removed and clean throttle housing. Spindle did not seem to be sticking but after a good road test there were no problems. Hope this cures as a new throttle body is over £500

I,m FAR from prefect, but i do have a diagnostic procedure which is do as many test,s as possible,then research the problem, first with all the info i have to hand (auto-data, opus data, Caps, vivid, Tech bulletins from Tech-topics and mototek, various TIS,s etc ) if i,m still stuck search UKAT and other trade and non trade site,s.
Then i phone some good mate,s i have here and other site,s not that if often gets that far as they have most likely answered the question somewhere

At some stage in there i even use manufacturer pay to view sites
It,s amazeing what you learn if you try.

Kev.. I do also try. UKAT is not my last resort. I also use autodata and many tech bulletins. I did look up archives but could not find anything at first. It was only when i put the manufacture code in that I found what I was looking at. My comment about being perfect was tongue in cheek and should not be taken as a criticism. It was not meant to offend and if it did I apologize. I have been at this trade for over 30 years and am still learning and find this site one of the best going.

Maybe i have tried to educate the wrong person BUT so many just visit for a silver bullet, post very little data, have little info to hand.
