Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CPi X16SZR 2001 - Running rough, code P0335 crank position sensor - Fixed #

Hi All

This came in from another garage today as they had run out of ideas after fitting a crank sensor (2 fitted), coil pack and egr valve

The vehicle runs fine when cold, but once a full temp it starts to run rough, no power and throws up code P0335 for crank sensor

As they had fitted 2 crank sensors (one non genuine and then a genuine) I decided to do a wiggle test on the wiring, just touching the ECU multi plug on the ECU (ECU on manifold) it stalled, tried two or three more times and it run rough and stalled each time

The car has gone back now, but has anyone seen problems with the ECU connections, either the multi plug or ECU connector pins. It does seem a strange place to bolt an ECU with the amount of varying temperatures

Hi Peter
We have replaced ecu's on these before for this
exact same problem,never had any luck cleaning and closing the terminals.

I have had similar problems with this system, new ecu only answer i'm afraid. They were also a stock item at my local dealer.

Hi Pete

You need to confirm your data because it does not stack up.

If the car was 2001 M/Y then the engine code would start with "Z".

the X16SZR (8 valve) was finished in 2000. TBI(throttle body injection) or CPI central point injection. This ECU was mounted by the side of the battery.

The later Z16SE (multi-point injection) the ECU is mounted on the end of the inlet manifold.

The early type had a faulty batch of ECU's that can be identified from the production bar code.

The later Type is the New Hybrid type quite small and thin , these also suffer from high failure rate with all sorts of problems.

so which one is it????

Hi Darren

This car came in as a last minute HELP! job, so the Modis was connected and I just chose the Astra 2001 1.6 8v that came up first, and it went straight in and came up with the same code as they did with the KTS, i can only assume it did a search and then connected with the correct ECU

So yes you are correct Darren, I did not check the correct ID of the vehicle I just read it off the "previous vehicles" stored on the Modis

This model is the one with the ECU bolted to the side of the inlet manifold and multipoint

I will give them a ring in a few days to find out the result

Had a call back from the garage today, the vehicle belonged to someone in their office, so they sent it to the dealer that supplies their Vauxhall parts

New ECU fitted £328:00 + vat (Trade Club Price) normally £445:00 + vat

1 hours labour £85:00 + vat
