Vauxhall Corsa Z12XE 2003 - Non start, timing chain jumped #

Engine Code or CC *: Z12XE

Hi all
Have the above vehicle in at the mo, came from another garage. Vehicle is a non runner, found that the timing has jumped the chain is really slack. What i was wanting to know will it be o.k just to re-time the chain and take up the slack with the automatic adjuster, or should i advise them to put a new timing chain kit on as they are prone? Does the new kit come with a new adjuster and what wears on these engines to cause the chain to go slack?

dont even offer to re-time, you are opening the door for future problems, fit new chain, tensioner and slippers, also not sure if the cam lobes can move on this type of engine may be worth a phone call to your local dealer, Good luck John

Jamie, i've done a few, if you haven't got the timing setting kit i,ve got one gathering dust you can borrow.

Buy the complete timing chain kit, i think most motor factors do them now. Also i'm sure its got a new modified tensioning device within the kit.

hiya mate, do not bother retiming just done one today local factor charged £63 + VAT for complete kit including main gasket. Took an hour and fifteen minutes to do. These are good little earners for us. Lost count of how any I have done.

Hi all
Thanks very much for all your posts and sorry for late reply. Told the other garage that it wanted a timing chain kit on it, they have now towed it back to their garage to sort out. Thanks once again for your replies, also thanks to Graham for the offer of the timing setting kit.
