Audi A4 1.8 ADR 1999 - Non start - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 99
Engine Code or CC *: ADR

Vehicle came on the back of an AA van who said that the battery had a bad connection to the starter?
I checked for a relay and found one, I bridged pins 2 and 8 (starter switch) and the car starts everytime obviously either a relay fault or a relay control fault? Had a new relay in stock so tried it but still the same? Checked pin 6 which comes from pin 2 wire and both are live and pin 7 which is relay earth is good, however pins 1, 3 and 9 show no signs of life at all? 1 is from the transmission tr switch 3 is from the tran control module and 9 is from the ECM, any ideas what i should be seeing at these pins or what I should be checking next? as autodata was no help!! Sorry i thought i put the engine code up? its ADR, its a 4 speed auto
where will i find the gearbox code? thanks for the reply.

Hi Luke,

Before diving in too deep, Have you checked the electrical part of ignition switch(very common)???

I figured it was ok as when you bridge the relay it starts on the button every time?? am i wrong?? i wont be offended!!

Went through it again after studying the wiring diagram and noticed that there should have been a live feed coming from the transmission range switch going into the relay supplying the reverse light solenoid and the transistor. Checked this at the relay and only getting 340mV so checked at the switch itself and got the same. Checked supplies and grounds to switch ( all ok) and replaced switch. Starts everytime now.
