Vauxhall Astra G 1.6 Z16SE 8V 2002 - Waveform for vehicle speed sensor - Fixed #

Hi, Would anybody have a waveform for vehicle speed sensor ,it has Abs and the speed sensor is taken from abs to engine ecu & instrument cluster thank you for your time regards Gary

Hi Gary,

You may find this is transmitted on CAN, therefore there will not be a usefull waveform you can use to establish if VSS is being broadcast on the network. Unless you have a CAN analyser and the abillity to make sense of the individual messages and their meanings.

I could be wrong though if so there will have to be a hard wired signal from ABS to both cluster and EMS which will be a frequency modulated 12 or 5V square wave.

I will check and let you know later if no one else has posted.

Thank you for your reply,this vehice has a vehicle speed senor hard wired to both engine ecu & instrument cluster,i was expecting a square to both units but that is not what i have even though i have a instrument cluster working & engine ecu speed signal that is not.The wiring is ok so expecting abs control module or engine ecu thank you again Gary

Hi Gary,

Having checked the wiring diagram, it looks like the Vehicle speed is proccessed by the ABS and output from the ABS module at pin 25 on a blue/red wire to the engine ECU pin B41 which also splices off to a multiplug on n/s/f inner wing/bulkhead area whci takes the VSS to the cluster and other components like radio and info display.

If the cluster is reading Vehicle speed then I would expect a signal is being output from ABS and is being corrupted on its way to engine ECU so compare signal at abs pin 25 with ECU pin B41,

Post the images if you can.

Don't some of these models have a signal converter in fuse box for speedo.

had similar problems with fauty original radios and aftermarket radios wired incorrectly. worth a look.

waveform1 channel A on pin 25 of abs ecu,channel B pin 41 on engine ecu,second waveform cannel A pin 25 on abs ecu,channel B on vss wire on back of instrument cluster,i was expecting a square waveform but as i have got a vehicle speed at cluster i could do with a waveform to compare thank you for your Time regards Gary

Eventually fixed, fault was VSS signal amplifier relay fitted to a vehicle with abs, relay was effecting vss signal from abs and corrupting signal, sorry to take so long to post fix
