Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 2000 - Non start, code for incorrect cam signal #

Year of Manufacture *: 2000
Engine Size and Code *: 1.8 petrol

Hi

Car is not running and has a fault code for incorrect cam signal. I have changed the timing belt, checked cam shafts for breaks changed crank sensor, cam sensor, had ECU checked by the ECU doctor and no problem there. I am really stuck with this one, even taken into main dealer and they couldnt find the problem

Any ideas?

Evening David,

Elementary questions....does it have spark, fuelling and compressions? Amazed that main dealers do not know what is wrong with it

You haven't specified which engine. What does the cam sensor pick up on? Are all the teeth there?

it started miss firing when hot then fail to start when engine was warm it got worse now fails to start at all wont even fire on any cly but spark is present also could pressure in fuel rail

Hi David, a lot of parts appear to have been changed on the vehicle, but your post is short on what diagnostic tests have been carried out prior/after the replacement parts?

I.e, have you scoped the sensor signals at the ECU?
have you checked any and all supply lines for the ECU/sensors? HTH

removed the ecu today to check the wiring to the egr and fuel injectors all seemed ok so i replaced the ecu and the car now runs????????
i found nothing wrong with the wiring every wire tested perfect with my multimeter.
im beginging to wonder has god listened to my prayers for a change!

I was about to answer and you provided the answer. We find this a common fault on these type of ECUs. The ECUs have several faults , but the one that is commonly reported to stop the car is CAM sensor fault or Throttle body fault. It is not easy to tell whether this is the ECU of a CAM timing error on the car unless you can accurately compare the CAM and CRANK sensor waveforms.
