Ford Mondeo 1.8 Petrol 2005 - High revs, misfire and cutting out #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
Engine Size and Code *: 1800
( Optional ) Scanner Used: VERUS

Car was brought to garage with high rev misfire and cutting out on road test. After quick check fuel filter had been replaced by owner (Ford part).

Fault codes present low fuel pressure, High fuel pressure, random nultiple misfires, fuel pressure regulator short to positive, cruise control and temp transmitter. Cleared codes and road tested. During road test car cut out after several miles at normal engine temp, injection time 12 to 200 ms, limped back to garage.

Obviously this is problem but are they controlled by engine ECU or seperate fuel ECU. Can anybody help?

(We have fitted secondhand fuel HP/pump and new intank LP, fuel rail sensor and temp sensor)

What was the engine code and what were the fault codes [P0???]

Hi Simon
Engine code is M14 SCI 1800cc high pressure petrol injection - I've personally not seen one of these before (strangely neither has our local Ford dealer!)
Fault code that seems to keep re-appearing is P0092 - but does not bring on MIL light - suspect this to be an affect not cause.
Only fault I can see on verus live data is injection duration time 11 ms at idle, closed loop or open loop. As this is a lean burn engine would expect it to be less than 1 ms. Vehicle has a separate ecu to run injectors but this obviously receives signal from main ecu, low and high fuel pressure readings ok, vehicle has 3 lambda probes fitted in exhaust - 1 prefront cat and 1 after front cat then further down exhaust temp sensor and past this a nox cat with another sensor. first precat sensor 5 wire, other 2 4 wire - all readings seem ok. Can't understand what is telling ecu to command injectors on for such long duration. Vehicle runs fine for 7 miles, even with injectors at 11 ms then misfires ans begins to loose power. All other sensors test ok, MAFF and MAP etc. Everything seems to point to ECU but questioning this as instinct says ecu will only command this if it sees a lean mixture (LTFT and STFT readings seem ok)Vehicle has had new front cat and fuel filter fitted at other garage. Any thoughts about the above or any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Andrew

Hi Andrew, can you post your readings?

Have you carried out a smoke test on the exhaust system?

What are the emission readings?

I have now removed intake manifold and cleaned swirl flaps, fitted new map sensor due to carbon contamination.
smoke test carried out no leaks present in exhaust or vac/intake system.Injector duration time still 11ms at idle.LTFT has now altered to 45% and vehicle drops out of closed loop.suspected pre cat oxy sensor(wideband 5 wires)but has been changed by another garage(genuine ford),also front cat.Main ecu must control front wideband sensor internally. strangely emission are not out as you would expect.
Everthing points to ecu faulty program.
Ford main dealer and techhelp line unable to tell me weather ecu update available or current version is correct.(calib1d01 bosch relveh14)ecuid se8 cvn 01 c8668dfo.
Any help with this appreciated.
Will try to upload some screen shots from verus.

Hi Kevin, spoke to Ford after my last post, you are probably right IDS data and check for updates required. Dealership not very helpful - 'just book it in mate!'. Will post outcome. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Regards Andrew.

Hi Andy, The way I see this is as follows;

If the fuel pressure and map reading are within spec, and the Emissions are correct, then the 45% LTFT and the 11ms make sense and the fault probably lies with the injectors.

This assumes that the engine is in good mechanical condition and the system uses the MAP as the load input.
