Peugeot 206 1.4 KFW 2001 - No spark, code P1216 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Size and Code *: 1.4cc kfw
( Optional ) ECU Type: sagem
( Optional ) Scanner Used: verus
( Optional) Fault Codes: p1216

Hi

Car came in from rac with a report saying no supply to coil and to investigate broken wire
so i filed that in the bin and started a fresh tested the crank sensor ok, checked supply to fuel pump and coil live under crank position.
tested double relay thats out putting ok checked engine earth point.scoped the coil pack no signal from ecu on either trigger just shows double relay voltage, removed coil pack and plugs plugs wet with petrol (injectors firing)original plugs i think (tight to get out)
the coil pack has 4 wires 1 12v relay feed 2 coil trigger and what looks like a feed back wire.
when i checked the ecu for codes it only came back with p1216 please ignor and delete.
did so but codes cleared fail. unable to view live data and also unable to function test anything.
obd shows no codes
i am waiting for a coil pack as im not sure if the report back would stop the spark or the attempt to trigger the coil
if the coil pack is disconnected surly there should still be a signal to check??

Why can't you view any live data as i'm sure this should be covered by a Snap-on scanner.

Have you tried it under system ID mode as i've had some luck with that in the past.

thanks lee i dont know why i couldnt get live data unless the ecu is having problems i have found out that code p1216 is an imobiliser recognition problem but the engine ecu says ignor and erase but fails to erase if the coil pack dont sort it i will try under system id and also see if i can add a fault by disconnecting something like map sensor or engine temp sensor and check if the ecu sees it and clears it
i did check the map sensor to see if it had a 5v feed and it did so i presume the 5v circit within the ecu is ok. the only thing im concered about is the if the imobiliser isnt cutting off but i think if it dosent switch off you dont get comms with the ecu and its another system the snappy wont go into :-(

Hi Martin,
I have Solus Pro with 10.4 and I was able to actuate the coil pack on a 206 recently. Not at work but very sure it was a KFW. I think the "feedback" allows the ecu to identify which cyl is firing? I would think it would still switch with the coil disconnected but it may be worth trying with a test lamp?

thanks bryan do you know if the 206 you did was a sagam ecu.
checked the coil trigger/trace from ecu and it showed battery voltage on both trigger wires and showed circuit back to ecu.
im thinking if the coil doesn't work the customer has to make the decision as to weather or not i carry on and do further tests to confirm the ecu wiring/signaling
if it wasn't for the french stuff we wouldn't have any work :-)

Hi Martin,
I don't have any records as to which ecu it had but can confirm it was a KFW and as far as I can see with AD it should be a Sagem. I do remember that continuity tests were all normal but when actuated with Solus Pro, No4 (or 1 being french?) sparked at the same time as the centre 2 cyl's. I believe that these coils can spike the ecu sometimes when this happens.
If it's any help dtc's were P0300 random cylinder mis-fire and P1336 high combustion mis-fre on several cylinders, but Sherlock wasn't needed to work that out on that vehicle.

Hi Martin

if the sagem ecu is the one behind the offside headlight then I would try unplugging it and checking for water damage to the pins as have seen this a few times now and have even had one that actually cleaned up and all was fine

thanks bryan and carl haven't heard anymore from the garage as to if the coil has sorted it will ring them tomorrow and find out i did check the ecu plugs for water/corosion and they looked ok.
how ever i still suspect the ecu as unable to look at live data and unable to carry out function tests snap-on software apps book lists codes data and function tests i just wish i could take a look at the immobilizer and see if thats ok.
finding it ever so frustrating to find only half the systems assessable with my verus i think more effort from snap on with software development would aid me in my ability to diagnose faults effectively

Are you sure on P1216?

I read P1216 as Pedal position sensor C circuit high input.

Can you get into bsi to see if ecu is locked or unlocked?
Does the chime work when driver's door is opened with the key in?

really sorry fault code was p1612 transposed the numbers when listing unfortunately the customer has decided not to go any further with diagnoses and has decided to scrap it and i was too late to take it on the lorry picked it up with chains through the window and off it went
and they say we are in a recession
